Welcome to Achievers Supplementary School

Who we are...

Achievers Supplementary School is a not-for-profit, community interest company that offers additional tuition for children that speak English as an additional language (EAL).

What we do...

We offer lessons in English, Mathematics and British History to children aged 5 to 11 years old. The two and half hour sessions only cost £6 per week.

Where and When...

Every Saturday morning, during term time, from 10am to 12.30pm at Ranelagh Primary School, Pauls Road, Ipswich.

Recent Events

Suffolk Constabulary Museum

This weekend we visited the Suffolk Constabulary Museum. It is important that children get a positive message about law and order. The museum staff are all volunteers and were extremely helpful and friendly - they even opened the museum on their day off! The children were all engaged and enjoyed dressing up in police uniforms.

Ipswich Transport Museum

Recently the children from Achievers visited the Ipswich Transport Museum. We all got to ride on a vintage double decker bus and have a look around the museum.

It offered the children an insight into what life was like in the area in days gone by. A great day out that everyone enjoyed.

Back for the Autumn Term

Achievers is back after the summer break. Lessons start on the 9th September at 10am at Ranelagh Primary School in Pauls Road, Ipswich. We hope to see you all there. It now includes a class for SATS preparation.

Achievers Summer Camp

For two weeks this summer Achievers trialled a low cost summer camp for local children. Educational fun in the mornings to help improve English skills and interesting activities in the afternoon. With lots of sporting activities and art projects the mornings flew by... The afternoons had lot of variety too, including a tour of Ipswich, where they learned about local history, Felixstowe where they got soaked (it rained - but we still had fun) and a visit to Colchester Castle. The fortnight was a great success - lots of happy children.

Visit to Owl Sanctuary

Our end of term trip was a visit to the Owl Sanctuary at Stonham Barns for all the children that have attended Achievers this year. It was our biggest outing ever - the coach was completely full and the children all enjoyed a great day out.

Mayor of ipswich visits Achievers

The Mayor of Ipswich visited Achievers. He was able to tell us all about his role and answered lots of questions from the children.

Achievers receives silver award

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the Silver Award by the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education.

The supplementary school is expanding

In addition to our normal classes we have introduced classes for younger children. This class in intended for 'Reception' aged children and will develop language skills for younger children. It is never too early to start learning and children pick up English very quickly at this age. Sessions will run from 10am until noon and are priced at £5 per week. The sessions will be lots of fun for the children and educationally beneficial. For more details send us a message using the Contact form.

English for Romanian children

Due to the recent influx of Romanian families in the area we have started a class specifically for Romanian children. They will be lead by a Romanian speaker. These sessions will run in addition to our normal classes and cost £3 per session.

Benefits of Achievers

How the supplemtary school can help your child:

  • Improve English
  • Help with vocabulary
  • Help with communication
  • Contact with other children with EAL
  • Introduction to British culture and British history

We provide different classes for different abilities. We prepare children by teaching vocabulary that will help them better understand the topics that they cover at school and help them with their grammar, spelling and handwriting. The children all make accelerated progress and quickly develop their English language skills. We are serious about education, but it does not stop the children having fun.
